Spring: A Season of Renewal and Letting Go

As winter gently gives way to spring, we are reminded that this is a season of rebirth—a time to shed what no longer serves us and to open ourselves to new possibilities. Like the trees releasing their heavy layers of winter bark, we too can let go of old burdens, broken hearts, and the responsibilities that weigh us down. It’s an invitation to stand in the sunshine, feeling its warmth on our bare skin, and to embrace the freedom that comes with release.

Spring teaches us that growth often begins in the spaces we create through surrender. Perhaps it’s letting go of a loved one, a chapter of grief, or a role that no longer fits who we are becoming. Every year, as we adapt and evolve, our hearts open a little wider, making room for new memories, new experiences, and new layers of our authentic selves.

The image above captures a beloved friend, adorned by flowers, who has crossed over. His brother, playing guitar in the background, beautifully embodies this moment. It serves as a gentle reminder that even in loss, there is renewal—a tribute to life, love, and the continuous cycle of becoming. Just as flowers bloom in their own time, we too grow and flourish in our own seasons.

In our last Death Café, a profound question was asked: Is there something you lost at one point that you didn’t realize how important it was until it was gone? The answers (see below) revealed the silent power of loss and how it often prepares us for the beauty of renewal.

As Carl Jung reminds us, “The spring wakes us up, opens our eyes, and invites us to discover what’s been hidden within.” Like the blooms bursting forth after the darkness of winter, life can surprise us in the most unexpected ways if we remain open. Let go of what no longer serves, create with what you have, and trust in the process of becoming.

This season, may we remember that sometimes, the most profound growth occurs when we allow ourselves to be vulnerable, to shed old layers, and to welcome the light. The promise of spring is that even in the darkness, life is waiting to bloom—if only we choose to nurture it.💜

Our March meeting was invigorating, intimate, and meaningful. To kick off the meeting, we asked the question: Is there something you lost at one point that you didn’t realize how important it was until it was gone? We also explored what attachments we might want to let go of.

Some of the things people mentioned included:

• Letting go of expectations, anger, or resigning to stress-inducing situations

• Releasing identities from past decades, labels, or chapters in their stories

• Shedding weight—both spiritually and emotionally

• Letting go of things beyond our control, such as material possessions like cars, money, shelter, and food—things that can be taken away in an instant

• Embracing the uncertainty of a world where we have little control over outcomes

• Accepting the passage of time and the impermanence of friendships

The meeting also featured a book swap. Thank you to everyone who brought books to share. Feel free to bring books for the next two sessions before summer if you'd like to offer some to others. We appreciate everyone’s openness and sharing.
